Rotary Regatta Race Viewing Areas with Estimated Viewing Times
There will be 3 staged starts beginning with:

•    Recreational Kayaks start 9:00 am
•    Recreational Canoes start 9:20 am
•    Competitive Boats start 9:30

Estimated Timelines: Novice paddlers within the Recreational Classes will average 3.5-4.5 mph, with some a little over 5mph. The competitive paddlers may go twice that speed at 7mph but average 6mph. For the basis below I’ll be using an average of 5 mph or 12 minutes a mile.  Check with your individual racers for better estimations if you’re cheering on a particular paddler.

Parking: All the public viewing areas are Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District or FEMA properties within residential neighborhoods.  Street parking is available but please be thoughtful when parking to avoid blocking residential traffic. Other areas may be located in gated or private communities so please be aware of your surroundings.

What to Bring: Boats should pass by the listed areas for about 30 minutes to an hour so bring a chair and drinks. Wear hats for shade and shoes appropriate for long grass.  If you get closer to the creek it can become soft or muddy. Choose appropriate foot wear.  Bring signs or noise makers to cheer on paddlers.
